Stranger Things Season 5 Teaser Promises Heart-Stopping Moments
Netflix has released an extended trailer for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. The latest installment of the popular sci-fi/horror series will premiere late this year. This is the first official teaser to show footage from the upcoming season.
Fans will be thrilled to see the action-packed, emotional, and intense moments teased in this short trailer. The Upside Down has fully seeped into Hawkins, and the fight between the good and evil forces is set to explode into chaos.
The trailer starts off with some intense sequences from the Upside Down and otherworldly sounds. There’s imagery of the Upside Down further seeping into Hawkins, shadowy movements of the demo-dogs in the halls, and a flamethrower-wielding action sequence. Fans will love the action-packed entrance of Linda Hamilton, as the iconic Terminator actor arrives fully armed, ready to join forces with Hawkins’ ragtag band of heroes.
Season 4 ended with Vecna, a.k.a. the big bad monster behind all the troubles, ripping the gate wide open, and letting the Upside Down completely flood into Hawkins. The new teaser shows that Season 5 will take place a year later, in the fall of 1987. As the big finale approaches, the events will coincide with the third anniversary of Will Byers’ disappearance, the event that kick-started Stranger Things in Season 1.
Season 5 will have eight episodes. But this will not be the typical runtime for a TV season. Each episode is expected to be feature-length, which means that fans will get eight Stranger Things movies.
Netflix has also given some information about the new season. Hawkins, as a town, is irrevocably changed by the Rifts’ opening and the effects they’ve caused. Old friends and new heroes are committed to the same goal: to find and kill Vecna. But he’s a clever villain, and his location is still a mystery, as is his next move. The U.S. government has placed a military quarantine on Hawkins and is actively trying to round up Eleven, sending the little superhero on the run.
As Hawkins awaits the anniversary of Will’s disappearance, the stakes are high and the fear is thicker. If fans are anything to go by, the new teaser shows that the final battle is just around the corner, and this time, it’s darker, more epic, and more dangerous than before. Fans are hopeful to see the full party—everyone that matters—join for the last ride and, hopefully, an end to this nightmare.
Old Favorites and New Alliances
Alongside the major cast members returning, the new trailer teases several key recurring characters that fans will be glad to see make a return. Amybeth McNulty will be back as Vicki, and Gabriella Pizzolo is also returning to the role of Dustin’s girlfriend, Suzie. Jamie Campbell Bower will reprise the role of Vecna.
The trailer also teases several new characters. Linda Hamilton will be joining the season as Dr. Kay, in what looks to be a dream role for the Terminator star. Other additions to the cast include Nell Fisher as Holly Wheeler, Jake Connelly as Derek Turnbow, and Alex Breaux as Lt. Akers.
The trailer is also packed with iconic shots and fan service moments. The trailer has a strong call-back to Jurassic Park when Lucas and the rest of the kids take cover from the demo-dogs in one sequence, including a shot of the young kids ducking in a bathtub, a clear homage to the velociraptor-in-the-kitchen scene from the dinosaur classic. On a psychological note, there’s that one moment in the trailer when Vecna menacingly says, “found you,” and every chill runs down fans’ spines.
Emotional Undertones
As good as the trailer is at fueling anticipation and excitement for what’s coming up, it also has an emotional core to it. At one point in the trailer, fans get a look at Eddie Munson’s gravestone, and the newly added words that read “Burn in hell.” Eddie, who died heroically in the final moments of Season 4, was a victim of his actions. He may have become a local hero for many, but it was clear during his funeral scene in the last episode that most of Hawkins still held him as a pariah at best and a criminal at worst. His death, one of the most tragic since Bob Newby’s in Season 2, is still a loss that fans and the Hawkinsians have yet to recover from. Perhaps the town’s view of him will be overturned during the finale, but that’s not to say the pain from that misconception will heal right away.
