John Wick Spin-Off Ballerina Final Trailer Ups the Stakes
Lionsgate has released the final trailer for the upcoming John Wick spin-off, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, which stars Ana de Armas. The third installment in the From the World of John Wick anthology is due out in theaters on June 6, 2025.
Ballerina is set during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. John Wick’s full return in Chapter 3 showed his journey through New York City after killing crime boss Santino D’Antonio at the Continental Hotel. That set him “excommunicado” from the High Table and put a bounty of $14 million on his head. By the film’s ending, Wick had made his way to the headquarters of the Ruska Roma crime family.
The Ruska Roma, run by a character known only as the Director (Anjelica Huston), trains a team of highly skilled ballerina assassins for a deadly profession. A young ballerina named Eve Macarro was briefly seen on stage in a scene from Parabellum. The real-life ballerina Unity Phelan made an appearance in that part of the film.
But now it’s the professional ballerina Ana de Armas taking over the role of Eve in Ballerina. The character is an orphan who lost her father to a violent mob-related killing. Joining Eve as recurring cast members from the John Wick series are Huston, Ian McShane as Winston, and the late Lance Reddick, who died in March 2023, as Charon. The last of these is, of course, the stoic, no-nonsense concierge at the Continental.
Gabriel Byrne is the new antagonist in the film as the Chancellor. Sharon Duncan-Brewster is Nogi, Eve’s mentor, and Norman Reedus is Daniel Pine. Catalina Sandino Moreno and David Castañeda also star, but their roles in the film have not been revealed.
The first trailer for Ballerina was released in September 2024. That trailer focused on Eve’s origin story. As a young girl, she joined the Ruska Roma to avenge her father’s death. This character was given depth in the trailer, making it seem like it would be a more emotional, character-driven story. John Wick also made an appearance, but only very briefly.
The second trailer was released in March 2025. It focused more on the action between Wick and Eve. As they meet on a snowy rooftop under a moonlit sky, we’re also given the impression that these two are different — they understand what it means to survive the violence of this world.
In this new, final trailer, we open with Wick in a tense standoff with a young Eve. A crosshair is focused on her as she looks up to the sky. New footage follows along with bits and pieces of what we’ve seen in the previous trailers, which is a montage of tight choreography that ranges from gunfights and acrobatics to some brutal knife and hand-to-hand combat.
The film’s action choreography will be handled by Daniel Wolfe, who is a two-time Tony Award-winning director and choreographer. Ballerina also reunites director Bill and Chloé Zhao with Keanu Reeves after his critically acclaimed work on the duo’s Marvel film, Eternals. Ana de Armas had a stellar 2024 in films with Anna, and her director, David Fincher, will be on Ballerina with Chloé Zhao and Bill Zhao.
Joining de Armas and this returning cast will be a group of new faces with intriguing roles. Gabriel Byrne will play the Chancellor, the antagonist for this latest film, who has the political clout to marshal the full force of an entire town against Eve and her crew. Sharon Duncan-Brewster is Nogi, Eve’s mentor, for the training she received from the Ruska Roma. Norman Reedus will appear as Daniel Pine, while Catalina Sandino Moreno and David Castañeda also have roles in the film.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina will premiere in theaters on June 6, 2025.
